Ourofino Agrociência announced the launch of the Racio insecticide for control of major aerial and soil plagues attacking soybeans, such as the southern green stink bug and the soybean caterpillar. Produced based upon acephate found in organophosphorus, the manufacturer notes that the insecticide has different modes of action and provides the best in resistance management and plague control.

With only a few agrochemicals available, the vast majority of insecticides are concentrated on pyrethroids, which are associated with neoniconitoids. “These mixtures can be found to face resistance from determined species of bedbugs, which does not happen with the formulation of Racio,” added Marco Antonio Cunha, Product Manager at Ourofino Agrociência.

The insecticide has a hydrosoluble package which totally dissolves, avoiding contact with the insecticide and offering fewer vapors and more overall safety for the applicator.

Bedbugs are present during the vegetative period for the soybean crop in Brazil, causing more damage during the reproductive period. “In some regions, such as Paraná and Mato Grosso, the incidence of bedbugs has been high. In some cases, producers perform from six to eight specific applications for this plague,” explains Cunha.

The bedbug mostly attacks the Intacta GMO soybeans (Monsanto), a variety that has the BT gene (Bacillus thurigiensis) in its DNA, reducing the use of insecticides that control the major caterpillars that increased in population. “The big problem is that, frequently, the application occurs late and without taking into consideration the correct levels of monitoring. This leaves lingering traces of the plague, resulting in the need to increase the number of applications, as well as the damage to soybeans,” comments agronomist and consultant Luis Henrique Kasuya.
