Australian company Nufarm announced that it has obtained the official registration of Brazilian agencies, allowing it to market the herbicide ZethaMaxx ( flumioxazin + imazethapyr) for soybean and kidney bean crops in Brazil. This was announced during the 30th Congress of the Brazilian Society of Weed Science, held in the city of Curitiba, gathering together academics, companies and researchers in the field.

According to the manager of herbicides and adjuvants at Nufarm, Carlos Mella, studies in the field have demonstrated that ZethaMaxx accelerates the desiccation in applications associated with the crucial herbicide: “It has a wide spectrum of control on monocot and dicotyledon plants. It allows the crop to express its maximum productive potential, due to its extended residual effect and the absence of the initial weed competition”.

Mella noted that ZethaMaxx also favors the practice of management to the resistance of herbicides, preserving the susceptibility of weeds to glyphosate molecules. “With the seeding overlay of GMO crops that are tolerant to glyphosate, the selection of resistant and tolerant plants increased significantly. Today, in Brazil, we have eight species resistant to glyphosate. In order to avoid this problem, it is necessary that the farmer uses pre-emergent herbicides with different action mechanisms,” said Mella.

According to the manufacturer of the herbicide, the new technology will deliver more “tranquility to farmers on weed management of soybeans and kidney beans.” The application of the product, in conformity with the technical recommendations, will result in crops that are free of invasive species, and easy management on the post-emergence of the crop,” noted Mella.
