By Think Real-According to the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center (NATESC)’s projection published on 13 June, 2016, the number of live corn borers on 100 plants in most planting areas this year is lower than those in conventional years including 2015. The first generation of corn borer is predicted to heavily strike the western part of Northeast China, the northern part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and some regions in the Huang-Huai-Hai Area; moderately in North China, the rest of Northeast China and the Huang-Huai-Hai Area; and slightly in the rest of the planting areas in the country. Estimation of the total occurrence area of the first generation pests would be around 9.3 million ha.

It’s predicted that the period from mid-June to late July would be the peak period for adult emergence of the first-generation corn borer in most corn-growing areas this year. The emergence has already started in southern areas including Hunan Province and Yunnan Province as early as in May.
