FMC Agricultural Solutions announced this Monday (12.07) the launch of the insecticide Mustang 350 EC for citrus. The focus of the new product is to control the moth Gymnandrosoma aurantianum and the Asian Citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) – two of the main plagues that affect citrus in Brazil.

Gymnandrosoma aurantianum provokes the rot and fall of fruits, disabling for fresh consumption as well as for juice production. The plague incidence was worse in warmer regions such as North and Norwest (10%), followed by the Center and East (between 5% and 10%), according to the Citrus Defense Fund (Fundecitrus).

The psyllid is the insect that causes greening (Huanglongbing/HLB), the major disease that affects citrus in the state of São Paulo. It lives on plants of the Rutaceae family, mainly on myrtle and citrus and it is widely spread in the groves, informs FMC.

The multicrop insecticide Mustang 350 EC is approved on the list of the Integrated Production Program of Citrus of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply and it is one of the few products registered for psyllid. “One of the major differentials is shock effect and the safety interval of three days, once the smaller dose and there is greater operational efficiency, Mustang has a faster control, diminishing the damage potential of the plague and the harvest period for three days,” explains Flavio Irokava, H&F marketing manager.

Other benefits are the greater penetration of cuticle and the caterpillars tarsus and other plague insects, the FMC isomer has greater activity, low washing by rain and no phyto-toxicity. “It is one more time FMC providing tools and technological innovations to support citrus growers, easing the days in the field to bring larger yields and profitability in the field. We are proudly citrus growers,” adds Irokawa.
