The Brazilian minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, Kátia Abreu, announced recently the mechanisms to reduce bureaucracy to do a Temporary Experimental Registration (RET) of agrochemicals. The goal of those measures, which would be enabled in the end of November, is to reduce the time to finally release those products.

Kátia Abreu said that the ministry will classify the imported products as “conventional chemicals” for the study of molecules and development of new products. “This will make the research easier,” her said.

The Agriculture Ministry, according to Kátia Abreu, will also double the number of agronomists to speed up the analysis of these products before the commercial release. “Each expert will analyze 40 procedures per year and we will double the quantity of agronomists to have more products analyzed. We do not have more than 100 agronomists operating with agrochemicals in the country and will yet train people in Brazil to multiply these operators,” she said.

The minister also explained the cut of R$ 30.5 billion of official programs of agricultural financing. According to her, there was a “very low” demand for these loans, which are aimed to large farmers. “The proposed reduction was exactly above the demand,” explained Kátia Abreu.
