BASF to release Seltima in China

Rice blast is a serious disease to paddy rice, to which pyraclostrobin performs a good preventive function. However, pyraclostrobin is prohibited for use in paddy rice in China because it causes safety risk to aquatic organism.
The special feature of the smart pyraclostrobin microcapsule Seltima developed by BASF lies on its microcapsule SC 10% formulation, where the micro capsular technology can ensure a precise discharge of the active ingredients over the surface of rice leaves in such a manner that the capsuled pyraclostrobin is discharged rapidly when droplet dries, which generates optimized rice blast prevention and control effect, whereas the small quantity of capsules which drops into the watery rice field sinks intact into the bottom mud, whose pesticide ingredients are degraded by the microbes in the bottom mud. Compared with conventional formulations, the new micro capsular technology effectively improves the toxicological characteristics, being more environment-friendly.
Seltima was launched to Indonesia early this year, to be followed by releases to other rice production countries, including the expected release to Chinese market for application to paddy rice.
