Nuseed and Legend Seeds collaborate on sunflowers in U.S.

Nuseed has partnered with Legend Seeds, the largest independent seed company in the Upper Midwest, to distribute its proprietary line of sunflowers in the United States.

Nuseed, with its global sunflower breeding and testing locations including its sites based in Breckenridge, Minn., and Woodland, Calif., immediately increases its exposure via Legend’s dealer network located throughout seven states. Nuseed sales representatives will have the opportunity to join the Legend team and offer customers premium quality seed for all core crops planted in the region. South Dakota-based Legend Seeds offers complete product lines of corn, soybean, alfalfa and sorghum seeds.

Legend Seeds will market sunflowers under the Nuseed brand with marketing and agronomic support provided by Nuseed. Together, the companies will deliver a pipeline of confection, oilseed and con-oil sunflower hybrids with Clearfield® and ExpressSun® traits. Nuseed branded corn and soybeans will be incorporated into the Legend Seeds portfolio of products.

“Customers of both companies will benefit from an increased level of support devoted to all of our core crops,” said Legend Seeds General Manager Tim Bratland. “Our focus is on delivering the best genetics and outstanding service to our customers. Nuseed customers and dealers will gain access to a complete portfolio of locally selected corn and soybean products with the newest traits and seed technologies, while Legend Seeds dealers and customers gain access to an outstanding portfolio of sunflower products.”
Furthering its commitment to the corn and soybean market, Legend Seeds will operate the Nuseed processing plant in Breckenridge, Minn., and convert it into a soybean processing, and corn, sunflower and soybean distribution center. Legend Seeds will work with current Nuseed plant employees to provide opportunities for them with the Legend team.

“We are very excited about this new arrangement. Nuseed staff can now focus completely on supporting, developing and improving our sunflowers to suit North American growers, while Legend utilizes their distribution network to gain position on core crops for their geography … a true win-win,” Nuseed Vice President Tim Birkel said.

Bratland agreed, “Our product portfolios and dealer networks are highly complementary. This partnership will bring value to the customers of both companies through increased support, better products and improved services.”
