Brazil probes fake agrochemicals to Embrapa![qrcode]()

Requested by Paraná's Crop Protection Agency, Brazil's Federal Police has initiated probe to the companies which are said to have supplied fake agrochemicals to the Brazilian Agricultural Research (Embrapa). Even though the products were already replaced, the Agriculture Secretary of Paraná, Antonio Carlos Barreto, said that the government was prepared to combate the alleged falsification.
The agrochemicals were purchased through public bids. According to Fábio Alvares de Oliveira, a management expert at Embrapa Londrina, the acquisition procedure of insecticides have followed the law and those companies were regular suppliers.
"The products were stored in a warehouse and, during the crop period, we have received complaints from the technicians," tells Oliveira. Researchers found that the applications of the products had no any effect to the pests, which they though that the pests had developed resistance to the product in the beginning.
"Those are very slight differences on agrochemical packages, a layman would not be able to identify if the product is fake or true," explained the Embrapa expert. Even though the companies are being investigated, they are not prohibited to participate on new public bids.
