Chemtura has received Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration for a novel soybean seed-applied fungicide, Rancona Summit.

Rancona Summit is a “step change” for soybean seed treatment which gives growers the ability to access all the distinctive seed and seedling disease protective features of Rancona in a ready-to-use product for soybeans.

Rancona Summit has contact as well as systemic activities and is highly efficacious against a majority of seed and soil-borne fungi which cause seed decay, damping-off and seedling blight in the plant pathogenic fungal classes of Zygomycetes, Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, and Fungi Imperfect (Deuteromycetes).

Rancona Summit is a combination, ready-to-use product for soybeans which contains ipconazole, the same active ingredient as Rancona 3.8 FS, and metalaxyl for pythium protection.

Rancona Summit is a microdispersion formulation which is specially designed for soybean crops. It is an extremely low viscosity product which is much thinner than other flowable crop protection products.

This superior formulation is easier to work with and provides good seed coloration, exceptionally low dust off, uniform coverage and excellent flowability of treated seeds for enhanced plantability.

"Rancona Summit has proven to be outstanding for soybean seedling protection, combining excellent control of a wide range of important seed and soil-borne diseases including phomopsis and pythium, as well as Fusarium and Rhizoctonia, which results in vigorous seedlings for improved stand establishment that can result in higher yields,” said Mike McFatrich, North American Business Lead for Seed Enhancements, Chemtura.

"With the inclusion of metalaxyl in this ready-to-use product, the grower has a complete soybean seed fungicide product that will out-perform established and recent soybean seed treatment fungicide offers,” added McFatrich.

"The introduction of Rancona Summit, coupled with the 2008 EPA registration of Rancona 3.8 FS, gives growers, dealers and genetic suppliers an alternative to established and recently introduced fungicide seed treatment products that is a step change in seed and seedling protection for soybeans and as well as dry beans,” said McFatrich. “The release of these new seed treatment technologies is intended to provide product choices to meet flexible treating requirements for those growers and dealers producing and servicing these targeted crops.”
