According to the Brazilian Association of Vegetal Nutrition Industries (Abisolo), the "special fertilizers" sector in 2014 recorded a revenue of R$ 3.5 billion. The result means a growth of 9.37% compared to 2013, even though this is just considered a preliminary study based on interviews with companies in the sector. The number is smaller than the increase of last year, which was 12%.

"The result reflected difficulties of other sectors of the agricultural industry due to lower commodity prices," explains Institutional Relations director at Abisolo, Thomas Altmann.

Abisolo gathers fertilizer manufacturers considered complementary to macronutrient fertilizers (NPK). Among these products are the organic fertilizers, minerals, foliar fertilizers, biofertilizers.

According to the association, competition in the sector is fierce, with a strong entry of new companies. "The market has been attractive in the last few years. We are going in a frightening pace," stated Abisolo president, Clorialdo Roberto Levrero.

The research also reveals an increase of revenue concentration in the hands of three companies detaining up to R$ 50 million. Besides, 11% of the companies have 48% of the registered revenue (R$ 3.2 billion).

The foliar fertilizers sector represents the biggest slice, with 21% of the manufacturers having 66% of the revenue. Soybeans remains the main crop that consumed organic, biofertilizers, and foliar fertilizers, as well as corn.
