Corn crop farmers from the Brazilian state of São Paulo are reporting good results obtained from the use of the Coron® technology - a liquid nitrogen with gradual release produced by Nutriceler. A farmer from the municipality of Ibirarema claimed to have harvested more 39 bags (60kg) for each of the 75 acres planted.

"This year the production was excellent in the areas of treatment as well as in the control area. However, where we apply the Coron®, we have 39 bags more per acres compared to the control area, which received only basic fertilizer," said Marco Antônio Ferreira.

The worries with corn yields have grown in the last few months with unfavorable prices during planting and the soybeans continue having an advantaged condition in the market. With the necessity of producing more corn in a reduced space, the crop required differentiated techniques and nutrition.

According to José Eduardo Amadeu, technical consultant at Nutriceler, few producers of the Itapeva region that opted for corn product are highly technical farmers. "Today, the planted area is smaller, but the productive potential is a lot higher. The farmer has cultivars with high potential, investing to harvest the same volume in a smaller area or even more than what they had harvested previously," explained by Amadeu.

The consultant affirmed yet that the corn has shown good possibilities of profitability. "There is a trend of higher prices. The great difference will be seen for those who exploit a maximum of grain quality and productivity. The climate has helped and the expectations are good for this crop season," he estimated.

Amadeu also explains that the good numbers of the corn harvest depend on the investments on fertilizers. According to the consultant, corn is one of the crops that need nitrogen fertilization the most. "While wheat consumes 70 to 80 points of nitrogen per hectare, corn demands from 200 to 300 points. Corn is a crop that responds for nitrogen complementation, and this liquid fertilization is done during the appropriate stage, the results are very satisfactory," explained by him.
