The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has reconsidered the approval and registrations for fenthion, a broad spectrum organophosphorus (OP) insecticide. The authority decides to ban most use of this ais, because of the risks to human health and the environment. The only two products left on the market are Bayer’s Lebaycid Insecticide Spray and Amalgamated Pest Control 1% Fenthion. With effect from October 30th, Lebaycid will not permitted for use on all crops except post-harvest treatment by dipping or flood spray of tropical and subtropical fruit with inedible peel. Amalgamated Pest Control is no longer permitted for use in wall voids, crawl spaces and ceiling voids. The first aid and safety directions of both products will be updated.
