DuPont Pioneer celebrated the opening of two new processing towers representing a $19 million investment at the DuPont Pioneer Chatham production location. This investment includes corn refuge blending towers and new soybean conditioning equipment, such as dryers and bins.

"This is an example of the seed industry and regulators working together to protect the future of agriculture," says Bryce Eger, Integrated Operations director, DuPont Pioneer. "Integrated refuge is a leading insect control solution and Pioneer is proud to invest in this new, convenient and effective technology for growers."

The expansion, at approximately 15,000 square feet, will house state-of-the-art blending and treating equipment with Human Machine Interface controlled processes.

For growers, blended refuge offers a simplified planting process that provides integrated refuge corn hybrids - seed that has been conditioned, treated and blended to integrate refuge products with other high performing Pioneer® brand products. The federal government mandates that growers plant 20 per cent refuge seed to help prevent insects from developing resistance to Bt corn. Typically growers have had to order and plant non-Bt products separately. The Pioneer® brand Optimum® AcreMax® family of integrated refuge products remove the separate refuge, saving growers time and money.

Pioneer has operated in the Chatham community for nearly 50 years.
