Four active ingredients are to be approved by EU after receiving positive votes from the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health in July. They are Dow AgroScience’s herbicides aminopyralid, Belchim Crop Protection’s herbicide metobromuron, BASF’s insecticide  metaflumizone and FuturEco Bioscience’s biofungicide Steptomyces lydicus WYEC 108.

Aminopyralid is a new pyridine carboxylic acid herbicide intended for use to control broad-leaved weeds. Dow submitted its application to UK as rapporteur member state in 2004. When evaluating, the Member States shall pay particular attention to the risk to groundwater, aquatic macrophytes and terrestrial non-target plants, as well as chronic risk to fish.

Belchim submitted Metobromuron application to France in 2010, and is required to submit confirmatory information by December 31, 2016, which includes the toxicological assessment of the metabolites, and the acceptability of the long-term risk to birds and mammals. The formulated product, Metobromuron 500SC, is registered for use to control weed on potatoes.

Metaflumizone was discovered by Nihon Nohyaku and developed with BASF. The application was submitted to the UK in 2005. It is used for foliar spraying against Colorado beetle on potatoes and against chewing insect pests on tomatoes and peppers. BASF has launched this ais under trade nemes Siesta™ Fire Ant Bait and Altrevin. The member states shall pay attention to the risk to fish , sediment dwelling organisms, and snail- or earthworm-eating birds.

FuturEco Bioscience submitted the application for S. lydicus WYEC 108 to Netherlands in 2010. This ais is a fungicide on vegetables, turf grass, ornamentals, cut flowers, pot plants and bulbs where application is made as a high volume drench or via drip irrigation systems and as a seed treatment on cotton and vegetable seeds.
