Agrisoma Biosciences Inc. has been given the Gold Leaf Award at the 2014 BIO International Convention in San Diego. The Company of the Year award recognizes biotechnology excellence in Canada. Headquartered in Saskatoon, Agrisoma is an agricultural company that has commercialized carinata under the brand name Resonance, a non-food oilseed crop designed for sustainable production of biofuels. The renewable oil can be used in biojet and biodiesel fuel manufacturing processes.

"Agrisoma's Resonance Carinata, Canada's first non-food crop that produces oil uniquely suited for biofuel production, was used to fuel the world's first 100 per cent renewable biojet fuel flight here in Canada," Steven Fabijanski, Agrisoma president and CEO, said in a news release. "Agrisoma has worked hard to demonstrate how our industry provides sustainable solutions as well as the role of biotechnology in securing our energy future."

Agrisoma is a member of Ag-West Bio, whose president and CEO Wilf Keller, said, "It's exciting to see a Saskatchewan bioscience company reach such a high level of success. This Gold Leaf Award celebrates innovative spirit, hard work and perseverance."
The Gold Leaf Awards were presented during a ceremony at the BIO International Convention in San Diego at the Canada Place Pavilion.
