Bayer CropScience has announced the new label expansion of Proline® fungicide(prothioconazole) for use on sunflowers and safflowers in Canada. As a Group 3, the foliar fungicide’s registration provides growers with a disease management tool that can help prevent the development and spread of disease.

As more growers look to plant sunflowers for the 2014 season, sclerotinia head rot is becoming a top priority. The disease, which is prominent in sunflower crops and largely impacted by environmental conditions, can cripple yield and result in significant quality losses.

“Tried and trusted by canola growers, Proline is the only Group 3 fungicide registered for use on sunflowers and safflowers,” said Paul Allen, Portfolio Manager, Oilseeds, Bayer CropScience. “By offering this new mode of action, sunflower and safflower growers now have a new, effective option when it comes to protecting their yield and crops against sclerotinia head rot.”

As a systemic fungicide with the added benefit of prothioconazole, Proline suppresses sclerotinia head rot and helps preserve growers’ crops and yields.
