The Brazilian Department of Agriculture (MAPA) and the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) authorized on December 4 the use of pesticides on cotton crops in the country.

The authorization allows the use of pesticides based on methyl bromide in core fibers and cotton for exportation, only as an emergency matter.

The authorization was valid on December 5 and the prohibition of pesticide use on these crops will be suspended until July 1, 2014.

According to the authorization, companies interested in commercializing these pesticides shall require the approval of supplementary booklet for emergency use of the product with the General Coordination of Agrochemicals and Allies in the states and the Federal District, and the register in the Department of Inspection of Agricultural Inputs from MAPA. The applicant company must also submit required studies about the pesticide for final registration.
