The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has issued reasoned opinions on the modification of the existing MRLs for indoxacarb in beans (with pods) and mustard seed and supported requests of raising MRLs for indoxacarb in related crops. The applicants proposed the MRLs to be: 0.5 mg/kg in beans (with pods), 0.04 mg/kg in mustard seed.

The Netherlands, as the evaluating Member State The Netherlands (EMS NL), received an application from the company LTO Groiservice to modify the existing MRLs for indoxacarb in green beans (with pods). In order to accommodate the indoor use, the EMS NL proposed to raise the existing MRL in beans (with pods) to 0.5 mg/kg. The United Kingdom, as the evaluating Member State United Kingdom (EMS UK), received an application from the company H.L. Hutchinson Ltd. to modify the existing MRL for indoxacarb in mustard seed. In order to accommodate the intended NEU use of indoxacarb, the EMS UK proposed to raise the existing MRL in mustard seed to 0.04 mg/kg.

According to EFSA, the submitted residue data are sufficient to derive a MRL proposal of 0.5 mg/kg for indoxacarb in beans (with pods) in support of the indoor use. The available residue data on rape seed can be extrapolated to mustard seed and a MRL of 0.04 mg/kg or 0.05 mg/kg is proposed for the NEU use.

Based on the risk assessment results, EFSA concludes that the intended use of indoxacarb on beans (with pods) and mustard seed will not result in a consumer exposure exceeding the toxicological reference values and therefore is unlikely to pose a public health concern.
