More even and efficient than seed treatment performed directly on the farm, the industrial model should reach 70% of all treated seeds for agricultural use in about five years, according to surveys conducted by BASF. The German multinational anticipates the trend and presents the Seed Solution at the Brazilian Congress of Seed Treatment, which takes place in Florianopolis (SC) on September 16th – 19th."These are innovative solutions that will contribute to the professionalization in seed treatment industry," says Fernando Arantes, Business Manager for Seed Treatment Unit at BASF's Crop Protection for Brazil.

Seed Solutions offers complete solutions for seed companies, multipliers and farmers. "The service combines protection of the seeds and seedlings, benefits AgCelence, customized services, innovative technologies and a large difference: the pursuit of excellence in seed treatment industry," said Arantes. For companies and multipliers, the benefits are related to the use of products and high performance machines that are available from BASF, seeking greater operational efficiency, reduce chemical and physical damage to the seeds, better coverage, and dust reduction during treatment, better visual appearance and uniformity in the distribution of the product. And the farmers have advantages associated with reduced hand labor, best plant ability, greater agility and efficiency in planting, selectivity, lower environmental impact and crop establishment.

BASF recently launched its insecticide/fungicide seed treatment, Standak Top (pyraclostrobin + thiophanate-methyl + fipronil) on more crops in Brazil. The product has approved to use on seven new crops: corn, cotton, beans, wheat, barley, sorghum and peanuts. Top Standak ® allows maximum expression of genetic potential of the seed, and contributes to a better control of major pests and diseases that attack the seeds in the process of germination and seedling development.
