The Brazilian Association for Action of Weed Resistance to Herbicides (HRAC-BR) announced an alert on the possible occurrence of control failure of green amaranth (Amaranthus hybridus) plants by the herbicide glyphosate, which was first reported by Syngenta.

HRAC-BR points out that the report has not yet been reported in the global weed resistance case database (www.weedscience.org), because it understands that not all official reporting criteria have been met and are in progress.

HRAC-BR stated that it is extremely important to reinforce the need to adopt the recommended good agricultural practices, which, among others, they highlight:

• Correct use of the integrated weed control management system;
• Adoption of certified and national seeds, not only of crops such as corn and soybeans, but also of winter forages. Essential measure, so that there is no introduction of new and/or resistant weeds in the agricultural areas;
• Cleaning of the machinery used in the sowing and harvesting of the areas of Rio Grande do Sul that transit to other areas and, or other states;
• Reduce attention to areas with control failure, prioritizing the elimination of surviving weeds, either manually or through the use of alternative action mechanism herbicides, by adopting the rotation of the different mechanisms of action;
• Correct use of application technologies, as well as the use of the various mechanisms of action for herbicides, in pre and post emergence, at the correct times and according to recommendation.
