Guantanamo, Cuba- In an effort to keep developing organic agriculture, farmers in eastern Guantanamo province have produced over 23 thousand tons of organic fertilizers that benefit the quality of the land, crops and help boost agricultural yield.
The fertilizers are being obtained from the processing of worm humus and composed based on a mixture of crop waists in harvested lands, along with other vegetable or animal components.
The material is being used in lands dedicated to urban gardening, as well as used in fruit plantations, forestry seedbeds and coffee and cocoa plantations on eastern mountainous areas.
Guantanamo possesses over 500 sites producing organic fertilizers, which employ hundreds of rural farmers in the mountains.
