Recently a registration review office has been set up by China Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA), which will take charge of the implementation of China’s pesticide registration review system.
Pesticide registration review is a process to reassess pesticides that have been registered in order to take risk control measures according to the results of the reassessment. Pesticide registration review ensures the registered pesticides to comply with the changing regulations to achieve latest regulatory compliance and secure public health as well as to protect ecological environment. The set-up of pesticide registration review system is a usual practice of developed countries to enhance regulation of pesticide industry.
“The safe of agriculture products have become a social focus of attention; also there has been higher and higher requirement on protection of ecological environment day by day; the implementation of registration review system is a requirement of new agricultural development,” Mr. Liu, the officer of ICAMA told Agropages.
Mr. Liu says that ICAMA, which in the past always focused on quality supervision, will now start to focus on both quality and safety issues. In 2013, ICAMA will stress on pesticide market supervision, give guidance on use of pesticide and monitor pesticide residues more closely.
