Valent Professional Products unveils SureGuard Herbicide

Golf course superintendents and lawn care operators (LCOs) have a new option to control goosegrass and other challenging summer annual weeds that infest Bermudagrass turf and landscape plant beds.
A single, late-winter application of SureGuard® Herbicide(active ingredient: flumioxazin) on dormant Bermudagrass provides superintendents and LCOs with season-long preemergence control of goosegrass, crabgrass and other problematic annual grass and broadleaf weeds.
"SureGuard binds tightly to the soil and has low water solubility,” said Dr. Jason Fausey, regional field development manager for Valent Professional Products. “These properties greatly reduce the potential that SureGuard will move out of the treated area and damage adjacent turf or ornamentals. Unlike other preemergence herbicides, SureGuard does not inhibit root growth. If you have ryegrass, bentgrass or other turfgrass species nearby, there is minimal risk of SureGuard runoff or tracking.”
For optimum preemergence control of goosegrass, crabgrass and other problematic summer annual weeds, SureGuard should be applied to dormant Bermudagrass just before spring green-up.
"SureGuard provides consistent weed control with the flexibility to apply in close proximity to cool-season grasses and ornamentals,” Fausey said. “SureGuard won’t affect turfgrass rooting and will not delay spring green-up of Bermudagrass when applied to dormant turf.”
Along with summer grass control, SureGuard also delivers excellent preemergence and postemergence control of Poa annua and annual broadleaf weeds such as chickweed, henbit and bittercress when applied in late fall to dormant Bermudagrass. Plus, SureGuard delivers proven, outstanding weed control for landscapes and also enhances knockdown performance of glyphosate when used as a tank mix partner, even on glyphosate-resistant weeds.
