Growers in northern North Dakota have a new tool to help them grow more sunflowers despite a short growing season with 7111 HO/CL/DM brand from Syngenta. The newest addition to the Syngenta sunflower hybrid line, 7111 HO/CL/DM brand consistently delivers oleic levels over 85 percent to enable growers to capitalize on premium High Oleic contracts. In addition, it provides excellent standability, strong tolerance to downy mildew and herbicide tolerance to aid in weed control. As one of the earliest-maturing sunflower hybrids available, 7111 HO/CL/DM brand also allows growers to reap crop rotation benefits.
"This newest hybrid gives northern region sunflower growers a new product to meet their demands for early maturity, high oleic and oil content, disease performance and standability,” said Grant Ozipko, crop portfolio head for oilseeds, Syngenta. “Having the industry’s largest germplasm pool and research pipeline allow us to continually deliver top-quality hybrids specifically tailored to meet the needs of our growers.”
By utilizing the Clearfield® herbicide system with 7111 HO/CL/DM brand, growers can easily control grass and broadleaf weeds that greatly affect yield potential. This hybrid features excellent vigor, stalk strength and high oil content. With early to very early relative maturity, 7111 HO/CL/DM brand flowers very early and is best suited for fields in northern North Dakota.
"Sunflowers remain a strong crop option for growers as consumers and the vegetable oil industry are hungry for healthier oils. With its short growing season and improved market prices, it also makes a profitable rotational crop and an excellent double-crop option,” said Ozipko. “The 7111 HO/CL/DM brand carries traits similar to our current portfolio, which deliver superior standability, early maturity rates, and high oleic levels and oil content.”
