DuPont Pioneer / ADM announce 2013 Plenishâ„¢ high oleic soy contract program
Date:08-31-2012
DuPont Pioneer and Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), announced that ADM will contract for Plenish™ high oleic soybeans in 2013 with the intention of marketing the high oleic soybean oil for use by the food industry in 2014.
ADM will contract with soybean growers in the Frankfort, Ind. area to produce Plenish™ high oleic soybeans for the 2013 growing season. Farmers will receive a processor-paid incentive for producing and delivering these soybeans. "ADM looks forward to its continued work with Frankfort-area growers to produce Plenish™ high oleic soybeans. We have great farmer participation for the 2012 Plenish™ high oleic soybean program and look forward to greater success in the coming year," said Matt Hartman, ADM's commercial manager in Frankfort, Ind.
"Plenish™ high oleic soybeans continue to perform in the field and we continue to see increased interest from food companies looking for soybean oil with consumer benefits and functionality," said Brad Lance, business director at DuPont Pioneer. "This contract program allows our partners to continue to expand the market for Plenish™ high oleic soybean oil."
DuPont Pioneer is the first to market a high oleic soybean that will provide an alternative solution for food companies and foodservice operators and new market opportunities for Indiana soybean growers. Plenish™ high oleic soybeans from DuPont Pioneer contain the highest oleic content (more than 75 percent) of any soybean product under commercial development. This significantly increases the stability of the oil and provides greater flexibility in food applications. Plenish™ high oleic soybean oil has 0g trans fat per serving and 20 percent less saturated fat than commodity soybean oil, making it an attractive ingredient for consumer food products.
DuPont Pioneer's high oleic soybean trait is part of the total soybean performance package powered by the industry-leading Accelerated Yield Technology system. Field testing has confirmed yields on par with elite commercial products.
Plenish™ high oleic soybeans are approaching completion of global regulatory approvals with over 94 percent of U.S. soybean export markets now approved. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) deregulated Plenish™ high oleic soybeans in June 2010. Processing of the 2013 production is anticipated to occur in 2014 following global regulatory approvals.
