Ukraine sowed 19.3 million ha with spring cultures as of June 1 this year, which is 10.8% up against the same period of the previous year.
The State Statistics Service informs.
"Out of total number of the sown grain crops, resowing of perished winter and perennial grass makes up 8.3%,” the statement reads.
Grain crops and leguminous cultures (without corn) were sown on 3.7 million ha, which is 7.9% less against the previous year, including barley - 2.3 million ha (by 9.3% less).
Areas were extended under sowings of grain maize, soya (1.3 fold up) and sunflower seeds (by 1.3%).
At the same time, agricultural economies extended as compared to the previous year, sowings of corn - almost 1.5 fold (almost to 1.9 million ha) and sunflower seeds - by 31.5% (tо 1.99 million ha).
The Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry forecasts total grain area (with taking into consideration winter and spring crops) at the level of 15.8 million ha in 2012, which actually corresponds to the previous year level.
