GreenLeaf Genetics LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Syngenta, announced that it has acquired JGL, Inc., a leading seed genetics licensing company focused on soybean and wheat genetics licensing to the seed industry.
"The acquisition of JGL is an important move for Syngenta and our independent seed company customers,” said Ron Wulfkuhle, head of GreenLeaf. “Now we will be able to offer independent seed companies even more soybean licensing options, and also will be adding wheat licensing opportunities to the portfolio. The addition of JGL wheat licensing is complimentary to the Syngenta wheat portfolio that is distributed through the AgriPro® associates business.”
Based in Plymouth, Ind., JGL serves two major types of customers – genetic and trait developers, for which they provide additional access to the broad seed market through licensing and marketing opportunities, and seed companies who utilize them as a source for genetics.
'Through GreenLeaf, Syngenta is committed to the growth of the independent seed company sector,” said David Morgan, region director of Syngenta in North America and president of Syngenta Seeds, Inc. “Syngenta is very excited about the additional opportunities we will now offer our independent seed company customers through this acquisition.”
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
