Chinese agrochemical company Jiangsu Changqing has initiated the operation of its 300 tonnes/year sulfonylurea herbicide nicosulfuron active ingredient project. The project has a total investment of Yuan 574.9 million ($ 95.8 million) and "is in good operation as designed", revealed by the company.
Nicosulfuron is selective herbicide for post-emergence control in maize of annual grass weeds, broad-leaved weeds and perennials grass weeds. The global value of nicosulfuron was $230 million in 2007 and reached $265 million in 2009.
There are total 40 nicosulfuron active ingredients which were granted ICAMA registrations in China. Some 11 companies have achieved the production license for the active ingredient, including Hubei Xianlong, Anhui Huaxing, Sinochem Ningbo and Jiangsu Changqing.
