New Zealand calls for submissions on fumigant EDN
Date:01-12-2012
The New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority is calling for submissions on an application by BOC Gases New Zealand to import the gas ethanedinitrile (EDN) for use as a fumigant for soil, grain, logs and timber.
In its application, BOC describes EDN as an “effective alternative fumigant to both methyl bromide and phosphine”. EDN is a flammable compressed gas that degrades rapidly in soil.
EDN was developed by Linde Gases and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia. Linde is constructing a new plant in the Czech Republic and has begun the registration process in several countries (

Submissions from the public and interested parties are now being sought.
