EU non-renewal of two active ingredients

The European Commission has decided not to approve the herbicide, propanil, and the plant growth regulator, 2-naphthyloxyacetic acid. Once the Commission has included propanil in Annex I for applicants to prepare their applications and to enable the European Commission to evaluate and decide upon such applications. But The Commission did not receive any applications for this active ingredient until the deadline. So the Commission confirmed not to renew the registration for propanil. Sales and distribution were allowed up to 31 March 2013, and the disposal, storage, and use of existing stocks would end by 31 March 2014.

For 2-naphthyloxyacetic acid, the Commission decided not to grant registration for data were missing as regards livestock exposure, plant metabolism, residue trials, processing studies and plant residue definition, and the risk to bees, earthworms and soil macro-organisms.
