Chilean fruit producer Verfrut has teamed up with Bayer CropScience and importer SFI Rotterdam BV to provide high quality grapes to Germany.
They will work together to optimize pesticide use and ensure any residues comply with European legislation, international standards and supermarket recommendations.
Bayer CropScience manager Maria Fernanda Diaz, said her company would regularly visit Verfrut’s vineyards with detailed monitoring.
"Providing these services coupled with new technologies, we are contributing to the achievement of sustainable agriculture, in order to meet the growing demand for high-quality, healthy affordable food and protect the environment,” she said.
Verfrut commercial manager Ignacio Donoso was equally upbeat about the partnership.
"We are confident that Bayer’s consultancy will allow us, regardless of weather conditions, to deliver healthy products to the demanding European market,” he said.
The agreement was signed at the PMA Fresh Summit 2011 earlier this week in Atlanta, U.S.
