On November 22, the 38th China Plant Protection Information Exchange & Pesticide and Sprayer Facilities Fair was inaugurated. During the event, experts from the Pest Control Division of the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center released authoritative information regarding plant protection and quarantine for the 2024-2025 period in China. This article summarizes the findings on the current resistance monitoring of key pests and weeds across the country, along with recommended rotation strategies for pesticide application.
Brown planthopper: The use of pesticides such as imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, and buprofezin should be suspended, and the application frequency of dinotefuran must be strictly limited;
Striped stem borer: In mixed cropping areas of single and double cropping rice, the application of chlorantraniliprole and abamectin should be ceased, and spinetoram and other diacylhydrazines insecticides should be used in rotation;
Rice leaf folder: In rice-growing areas in South China, the use of diamide insecticides should be suspended, and insecticides such as indoxacarb, spinetoram, and emamectin benzoate should be used in rotation;
Wheat aphids: The use of imidacloprid during seed treatment should be limited, and thiamethoxam, clothianidin, and phoxim should be used in rotation;
Cowpea thrips: Chemical pesticides such as chlorfenapyr should be used in rotation. In major production areas of Hainan Province, the use of emamectin benzoate should be ceased;
Wheat scab: In provinces such as Jiangsu and Anhui, the use of carbendazim and its compounded formulations should be ceased, and prothioconazole, prothioconazole, phenamacril, pydiflumetofen, and tebuconazole should be used in rotation;
Rice bakanae disease: In high-resistance regions such as Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and Anhui, the use of phenamacril and its compounded formulations should be suspended, and tebuconazole, prochloraz, and fludioxonil should be used in combination or rotation;
Weeds in rice fields: In high-resistance areas of Northeast China and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the use of penoxsulam and quinclorac for controlling barnyard grass should be suspended, and metamifop and cyhalofop-butyl should be used in rotation;
Weeds in wheat fields: In high-resistance areas such as Shanxi, Shaanxi, He’nan, and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the use of mesosulfuron-methyl and clodinafop-propargyl should be suspended, and post-emergence herbicides such as pyroxasulfone, diflufenican, and flufenacet should be used in rotation for soil closure treatment.
