Fuhua Chemical makes circular industry chain layout via quantitative management of material elements, being present at UN Climate Change Conference Baku

On November 11 to 22, the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Ding Xuexiang, Special Representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the World Leaders Climate Action Summit and delivered an address. Zhao Yingmin, Vice Minister of Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment, acted as the head of the Chinese delegation. Fuhua Chemical joined the delegation, as invited. 

On November 12, 2024, Li Ruiqi, Co-General Manager of Fuhua Chemical and General Manager of Fuhua Crop Science and Technology Industry Group, attended and addressed the China Corner Border Conference, themed with the International Cooperation on Energy Conservation and Environmental Governance.

Li Ruiqi said that Fuhua Chemical is making its circular industry chain layout via quantitative management of material elements, using the ″element economics″ to promote the balance between economic benefit and environmental contribution, meaning that when material elements are maximized, the corresponding environmental spend is minimized. He pointed out that innovation and development are the key to carbon reduction while international cooperation is the cornerstone of quick solution and popularization of environmental actions. Fuhua Chemical has established joint R&D platforms in cooperation with multinationals and research institutes including Evonik of Germany, Clariant of Switzerland, HighChem of Japan and the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, having achieved good results in product development and industrialization of technological achievements. Fuhua Chemical is continuing the application of its experience in international cooperation, which is an innovation momentum to the high-quality development of the company and the whole industry.

In recent years, Fuhua Chemical adheres to the strategy of ″green, low-carbon and digitalization″ to actively promote the green transformation to establish the green and low-carbon production system. The company has formed its complete chain recycling industry model, which covers resources, chemical intermediates and terminal chemicals. In 2023, Fuhua Chemical was successfully accredited to the energy management system certification, being rated for 5 consecutive years as an ″provincial environment-credited enterprise″ (green card). The company’s management innovation program, named Green Vertical Integration of Circular Industry Chain, won the first prize of the 30th National Enterprise Management Innovation Award; in 2024, the company’s digital transformation program, the Fuzhi program, won the Dingge Award; the company’s alkali industry-related brine gas desulfurization-based zero waste production mode was evaluated as demonstrative ″zero-waste production″ by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Fuhua Chemical has launched a Low Carbon Fuhua Program in cooperation with the Engineering Technology Innovation Center of Southern University of Science and Technology, Sichuan Energy Conservation Association and Chengdu Customs Technology Center. The program involves research into the carbon footprint calculation and carbon emission measurement with respect to the key products of the company, which further enhances the company’s carbon emission measurement and emission factor management. In July 2024, Fuhua Chemical allied with 7 industry leaders, with the technical support from China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA), Southern University of Science and Technology and Chengdu Customs, to have set up a low-carbon alliance within the crop protection industry. The objectives of the alliance are: To integrate the high-quality industry resources, take lead in formulation of low-carbon industry standards and promotion of carbon trading for the purpose of joint promotion of the high-quality green transformation of the Chinese crop protection industry. At present, under the leadership of China Energy Conservation Association and CCPIA, Fuhua Chemical has issued in succession a series of glyphosate-oriented guidelines for formulation of local industry standards and group standards.

Going ahead, Fuhua Chemical is prepared to continue its international cooperation and establishment of partnership in climate adaptation to facilitate sustainable and high-quality development; and will push for positive action under COP29 to make new contributions to the combat against the climate change.

The UN Climate Change Conference is the highest-level conference on climate change, which aims to advocate for reduction of greenhouse gas emission, response to global climate change and joint promotion of sustainable development. The COP29 vision is to enhance ambition and enable action, the two pillars to deliver the mission lie on enhancement of NDCs and NAPs as well as BTRs, whilst a fair and ambitious new climate finance goal be agreed to improve the Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to prompt commitment from financing institutions and private sectors to climate action.
