Syngenta announced the launch of its new herbicide Evolya, formulated based on mesotrione, during the Iberian Corn Congress, which AgroPages attended in Lisbon, Portugal. Evolya is indicated for the pre-emergence and early post-emergence control of a wide spectrum of corn weeds and demonstrates excellent selectivity for the crop.
Another new solution that Syngenta will offer corn producers starting this campaign is the herbicide Indavius, which is still pending registration. Formulated with pethoxamid, Indavius is indicated for pre-emergence and early post-emergence control of grass and broadleaf weeds.
These two new solutions strengthen Syngenta's herbicide portfolio and meet the needs of corn producers, who are increasingly limited in accessing pre-emergence solutions. This is due to the limitation of use and withdrawal from the European market of highly effective herbicidal active substances.
Biostimulants
Syngenta Biologicals also highlighted, during the Iberian Corn Congress, the adoption of more sustainable agricultural practices with its range of biostimulants. With these products, the goal is to reduce the use of mineral-based fertilizers for corn while maintaining productivity gains in the crop.
Results were presented from the trial conducted with Nutribio N, a nitrogen-fixing fertilizer and plant growth promoter based on microorganisms. At the Experimental Station, the increase in production was 993 kg in 2022 and 742 kg in 2023, with a 13% reduction in mineral fertilization.
Seeds
On the other hand, Syngenta Seeds division presented a wide range of corn hybrids, resulting from its R&D program, with the varieties SY Fuerza and SY Andromeda standing out in the Iberian market, demonstrating consistent results. This year, the SY Clipser hybrid, characterized by its high grain quality, is Syngenta's main novelty in the segment for human consumption.
As part of its investment in digital agriculture to facilitate difficult decisions on the farm, Syngenta is preparing to launch in Portugal at the end of 2024, the Seed Selection module of its digital platform Cropwise. This module provides personalized recommendations on the selection of corn and sunflower seeds most suitable for each plot, in a very precise and reliable manner.
