Date:08-25-2011
Dow AgroSciences announced an expansion and relocation of the company’s corn research station in Arlington, Wis., to accommodate the growing corn breeding program.
The new site includes approximately 31,000 square feet of office buildings, seed processing and equipment storage. The Arlington corn research station focuses primarily on grain and silage corn hybrid development.
"The Arlington Research Facility’s main focus is developing superior grain and silage corn hybrids for our seed affiliates associated with Dow AgroSciences,” said Bruce Nagel, Dow AgroSciences research station site leader at Arlington. “The site also does research with the trait introgression program along with support for product characterization, sales, production research and agronomy service groups.”
"This new facility is one of many Dow AgroSciences’ projects underway around the globe to bring farmers the best technologies and the best agronomic traits to meet their needs,” said Don Blackburn, Ph.D., NA Field Breeding and Development leader at Dow AgroSciences.
"This expansion will allow us to increase our research capabilities by adding additional testing and breeding efforts in Wis. along with expanding our full-time staff,” Nagel said.
The Arlington site has more than 10 full-time employees, plus a large number of seasonal and contract employees.
Project costs were not disclosed.
During an Open House event at the new field research station, Nagel and Ken Mayberry, Dow AgroSciences field operations leader at Arlington, presented $500 donations to the Poynette High School FFA Chapter and the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department. In conjunction with the Poynette Arlington Dekora Parents’ Club, Dow AgroSciences asked invited guests of the Open House to bring school supplies that will be distributed at local food pantries.
