Veyong, a subsidiary of Chinese agrochemical company Limin Co., Ltd, held the opening ceremony on the morning of November 28 to commence operations of its 10,000-ton L-glufosinate project (phase I) after nine months of construction.
At the ceremony, the L-glufosinate project team offered a recap of the project implementation, including the timeline and key milestones of the project. Then, the production workshop provided a report on the commissioning of the equipment, confirming that the L-glufosinate production unit had been built as per the design. Now that utility and raw material supplies are ready, operational procedures have been approved, and hot commissioning is ready.
At this time, the experts of Zhejiang University of Technology and the head of the group’s R&D center handed the inoculation bottle to the production workshop. They jointly witnessed the smooth handover of the L-glufosinate biological enzyme-based seed from Zhejiang University of Technology to Veyong’s production workshop, indicating the technical achievement's commercialization.
Li Lihua, general manager of Veyong, issued instructions on starting inoculation and material feeding. On the site, Li Lihua emphasized that the L-glufosinate project is the group’s key project, which plays a critical role in the company's future development. He noted that the L-glufosinate project complies with the national pesticide reduction policy and fulfills the company's diversified development needs. The project's operation is expected to bring new development opportunities and become a new source of profitability to the group.
Earlier, on June 14, 2022, Veyong, a subsidiary of Limin Co., Ltd, along with the research team led by the academician Zheng Yuguo of the Institute of Bioengineering of Zhejiang University of Technology, executed a technology transfer agreement on commercialization of the biological enzyme-based L-glufosinate production process.
The process uses synthetic biology and enzyme catalysis technology to make a highly efficient glufosinate catalytic enzyme, which converts the glufosinate D-isomer into L-glufosinate of high optical purity, thus realizing the seamless connection between gas-phase continuous chemical synthesis and the biosynthetic technology. In May 2023, Veyong’s 10,000-ton L-glufosinate project was endorsed, and construction started at full steam.
