Sumitomo Chemical revealed the launch of the new herbicide, Rapidicil, during the Argentine Weed Congress 2023. The product is a formulation based on the molecule, epyrifenacil, which is unique in the Argentine market and belongs to the class of compounds known as protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitors.
This solution is classified by Sumitomo Chemical as "innovative," and the company is preparing it during its pre-commercial phase for full release next year. "There is a growing number of species that show some tolerance or resistance to different types of herbicides," said Martín Spranger, Regional Market Coordinator of Sumitomo Chemical in Argentina.
″This molecule offers a new alternative, a new tool for managing some difficult weeds, especially pigweed, and some annual grasses that are significant problems in many parts of the country, such as eleusine, echinochloa, ryegrass, and urochloa,″ he added, affirming that Rapidicil will "add an increasingly wide range of options offered by Sumitomo" in response to more resistant pests and diseases in agricultural production.
Sumitomo also highlighted another launch made earlier this year, Excalia Max, a fungicide that combines a triazole with another new and exclusive molecule, Indiflin, which is the trademark name for inpyrfluxam.
"It is an innovative solution that offers extra performance by protecting the leaf area during the crop’s critical period. It has excellent systemic and translaminar activity, great persistence, and a broad spectrum of control against rust and spots," Spranger said.
