The Brazilian bioinputs market moved US$827 million in the 2022-23 harvest season, according to FarmTrak Bioinputs survey by Kynetec, which AgroPages has accessed.
The result represented a significant increase of 51% compared to the previous cycle when these bioinputs generated $547 million in Brazil.
Kynetec consultancy also found that biological pesticides advanced in market share from 3.6% to 4% of the total transactions in the entire plant defense sector, which rose from $15.071 billion to $20.772 billion, a growth of nearly 38% in US currency.
According to Kynetec's FarmTrak, in the analysis by product category, bionematicides and bioinsecticides shared the first position, each with a 35% share and sales of $291 million and $286 million, respectively.
In third place, bioinoculants accounted for 17% of the total $140 million.
Biofungicides were the fourth subsegment in business: 13% of the market or $111 million.
The Kynetec survey showed that in the 2022-23 harvest season, biodefensives reached 33% of the planted area of soybeans (112 million hectares), in addition to covering 50% of sugarcane (4.6 million hectares) and 40% of second-crop corn (6.6 million hectares).
They also reached 899,000 hectares of summer corn and 1.046 million hectares of cotton, corresponding to 20% and 66% of these crops, respectively.
Kynetec's account manager and research specialist, Lucas Alves, anticipated that the area treated with biological products had registered significant growth in the main crops in the 2022-23 period.
He highlighted the advance in second-crop corn, "in which the use of products rose from 20% to 40% of the crops and continues to evolve, compared to previous harvests."
The executive also added that in the evaluation regarding the potentially treated area (PAT) - calculated based on the number of applications made by producers, per cultivated area and crop - FarmTrak observed a 19% growth.
According to Alves, by this criterion, bioinputs filled an area equivalent to 112.831 million hectares in the 2022-23 period, in the central producing regions, compared to 94.736 million hectares in the 2021-22 harvest.
According to the new Kynetec survey, soybeans accounted for 69% of the total biological PAT: 77.108 million hectares.
Behind the oilseed, the most relevant indicators are associated with second-crop corn, with 18% of the total or 20.6 million hectares, and sugarcane, 7% or 7.5 million hectares. The study also included cotton, coffee, HF, rice, peanuts, and other crops.
