Ethos 3D insecticide/fungicide, Capture 3D insecticide, and Xyway 3D fungicide are available as at-plant in-furrow application options available for FMC’s 3RIVE 3D system.
Studies have shown the effectiveness of fungicide and insecticide applications near planting to help protect your crop at one of its most vulnerable times.
″Some farmers don’t have a liquid system on their planters, and one of our former sales reps had the idea for an alternative method of applying,″ says Marcus Bartlett, FMC precision platforms regional sales representative. ″It’s the consistency of shaving cream, like we’re putting Barbasol down in the furrow.″

The 3RIVE 3D system uses a 130-gallon water tank and a 30-gallon chemistry tank mounted on a planter. When mixed with air, it creates a foam that can be applied into the furrow as seeds are planted. By using air, the weight of the system is reduced and one fill can cover up to 480 acres.
″We’re putting out 60 ounces of total solution per acre,″ Bartlett says. ″The chemistry has a 50-times expansion ratio, which is the equivalent coverage of around 15 gallons in the furrow. Traditional liquid systems put out around 5 gallons per acre for the same coverage.″
The 3RIVE 3D system can be adapted to work with any planter. It ties in to any existing ISO system, so there are no additional monitors needed in the cab. Each row has an individual blockage sensor providing real time information if something needs attention.
Through the end of the year, FMC is offering the system and professional installation at no cost to growers who make a three-year product volume commitment, starting at 315 total gallons. Growers can also purchase the system outright starting at $20,000. Currently there are three products offered in the 3D formulation with more in development.
