Since its formation in 2020, Bayer and Unfold have worked together on specific projects, with the goal of lifting the vertical farming space to the next level of quality, efficiency and sustainability.

Unfold will continue its journey within Bayer’s De Ruiter high-tech horticulture business, and they are looking forward to the innovations this team will continue to create.

The combined focus will be to develop novel varieties with the most desired consumer traits and agronomics adapted for indoor production, and to leverage the extensive global footprint and established grower and food value chain partnerships that Bayer has already built in protected horticulture, to grow the indoor farming business.

As technology advances, Unfold sees increasing overlap in breeding targets, digital crop management and the development of automation across protected culture.

Unfold will continue to include selection for these characteristics in its global protected pipelines, to optimize new variety development, testing and time to market. Additionally, Unfold will leverage the significant expertise within De Ruiter high-tech protected horticulture business to continue to serve vertical farming customers.
