Gowan’ insecticide Imidan registered for use against Spotted Wing Drosophila

Gowan Company, LLC announced Imidan (active ingredient: phosmet) is now registered for use against Spotted Wing Drosophila (Drosophila suzukii) in the following crops; apples, apricots, blueberries, cherries (tart), grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, plums and prunes. The registration was added following field trial work that demonstrated Imidan provides efficacious control of Spotted Wing Drosophila.

Spotted Wing Drosophila was first detected in California in 2008 and has since spread eastwards. In 2010 it was identified in Florida, Carolinas and Michigan. Recently in 2011, Spotted Wing Drosophila was detected in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

"Since Spotted Wing Drosophila is prone to attacking healthy ripening fruit, the recent registration is just in time to provide fruit growers with another valuable tool to combat this damaging pest," noted Gowan product manager Eric McEwen.
