Eden Research PLC (AIM:EDEN, OTCQB:EDNSF) said its flagship bio fungicide, Mevalone, has received regulatory authorisation in Poland.
Farmers in the country can now apply the natural pesticide on grapes to treat outbreaks of Botrytis cinerea as well as on apples to prevent post-harvest storage diseases.
Poland is the EU's largest grower of apples, producing almost 2.5mln tons annually.
Eden also expects to receive further regulatory approvals in Central European member states such as Germany, Austria, and Hungary, all of which are significant wine producers.
In total, Eden estimates the Central Europe market for Mevalone to be worth a peak of €3.2m.
SumiAgro Europe will be the exclusive distributor in Poland, adding to an existing arrangement the two have in France.
In a statement, Sean Smith, chief executive, said the Polish approval marks the start of a commercial push into Central Europe by the company.
″While the Polish grape market is relatively small when compared with neighbouring Central European countries, we are encouraged by the opportunities that lie within the apples segment for post-harvest storage disease control.
″Pre-harvest application of Mevalone helps to protect produce from diseases that can develop during the long storage period,
″We are proud to be able to provide farmers with a highly effective crop protection solution that not only supports sustainability in agriculture but also helps to reduce food waste in the supply chain," Smith noted.
