Two of the six chlorpyrifos product registrations of Corteva in China, which are chlorpyrifos 480 g/L EC and sulfoxaflor.chlorpyrifos 37% SE, were valid respectively until April 22, 2022 and October 17, 2022, which were not renewed, thus gradually stepping out of the Chinese market.
Chlorpyrifos-methyl is an organophosphorus insecticide, which acts on the nervous system of insects, with the functions of contact toxicity, stomach toxicity and fumigation. From 1993 to 2012, a total of nine chlorpyrifos-methyl formulations were granted provisional registration in China, but only two of them were successfully granted full registration, respectively in 2007 and 2010, including Corteva’s chlorpyrifos-methyl 400 g/L EC for control of cabbage caterpillar and cotton bollworm as well as Jiangsu Lanfeng Bioch’s chlorpyrifos-methyl 40% EC for control of cotton bollworm.
In recent years, some countries and regions have in succession taken actions to restrict or ban chlorpyrifos. Among them, the EU has decided not to renew the registration of chlorpyrifos; the United States has banned the foodstuff-related use of chlorpyrifos; Canada and Australia have revoked the registration of chlorpyrifos for use in household and home garden; India, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia have suggested banning of chlorpyrifos; and China has banned the use of chlorpyrifos in vegetable crops from December 31, 2016.
Up to November 30, 2022, a total of 1,123 chlorpyrifos product registrations were granted in China , including 68 TCs and 1,055 formulations.
