With the aim of strengthening its operations in Portugal, the biopesticide company, Biobest Spain, announced the acquisition of the distributor, Agronologica Unip. Ltd.
Agronologica has traditionally served Portuguese vegetable and fruit producers and implemented biological control programs against pests and diseases.
According to Agronologica, the acquisition will allow ″enhanced access to Biobest’s technical expertise, product portfolio and optimized logistics.″
Based in the Spanish city of Almeria, Biobest will also invest additional resources to strengthen Agronologica.
Providing strategic management support, the company changed its brand to Biobest Portugal, which highlighted the strength of the joint activities between Agronologica and Biobest.
Jordi Portoles Peramo (Managing Director of Biobest), said, ″I am pleased to announce this transaction, which will enable Biobest to better serve the needs of Portugal’s rapidly growing horticultural sector.″
According to Peramo, Agronologica ″has a strong local network and is highly appreciated by producers for the quality of its technical assistance.″
″We value their work to promote the use of biological control and strengthen the Biobest brand in Portugal. With this acquisition, we are transitioning from remote cooperation with a distributor to a fully integrated local operation with the same seamless logistics,″ he added.
″We will also provide management services and close support to the team in Portugal. I am sure that they will benefit greatly from Biobest's global experience to further improve their services to producers. The name change to Biobest Portugal will prove to producers that they can fully rely on the highest standards of reliability, quality, and service,″ he added.
José Vanzeler de Melo (Founder of Agronologica) said that the collaboration with Biobest will ″contribute to sustainable horticulture in Portugal, increasing the use of biological control products and delivering superior solutions and excellent services to our producers.″
″The ownership of Biobest and our commitment to invest will create many opportunities to strengthen and develop our organization. I and other members of the Agronologica team are all happy to be part of a larger organization with global reach. We can see the opportunity to take advantage of the synergies between Biobest's operations in Portugal and Spain, to offer an even better service to Portuguese producers,″ he added.
