Albaugh Brasil announced the incorporation, into its portfolio, of the insecticide, Bazuka Duo 225 EC (Methomyl + Bifenthrin), which is registered for application on some 25 crops.
According to the manufacturer, the product comprises an exclusive ready-mix in a liquid formulation, and is described as ″highly effective″ in controlling bed bugs, caterpillars and leafhoppers with ″impressive results″ obtained in soybeans, corn and cotton.
According to Albaugh, the product, which belonged to Rotam but it acquired in May 2022, works through two modes of action, which are shock and ovicidal effects.
″These characteristics add flexibility in the application during the different life stages of target pests. Field results showed that egg control reached 100%, and the effect of the insecticide on adult pests is immediate,″ said Fábio Tramontina, marketing manager at Albaugh's South Central Business Unit.
According to Tramontina, in soybean farming, Albaugh's insecticide strategically targets the caterpillars, Helicoverpa armigera, Chrysodeixis includens (false-measured), as well as the Spodoptera complex.
Another complicated pest successfully controlled by the product in oilseed crops is the brown stink bug, Tramontina added, stating, ″Experiments led by researchers revealed that during the reproductive period, the brown stink bug causes losses of 56 kilos of soybeans per hectare over a period of 35 days. In financial terms, this level of damage is equivalent to approximately BRL173 per hectare.″
The new insecticide in the Albaugh portfolio also acts quickly against major corn pests, which are the Spodoptera frugiperda caterpillar, the green-bellied bug (Diceraeus melacanthus), and the corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis). In cotton, these pests are the caterpillar, Helicoverpa armigera, and the 'bicudo' insect (Anthonomus grandis).
Tramontina added that the product does not generate uncomfortable odors in the field during or after applications, in addition to offering benefits to farmers by supporting integrated pest management (IPM) and insecticide resistance management.
″Bazuka Duo 225 EC is selective against the natural enemies of pests and does not cause an imbalance in the mite population in the applied areas,″ he said in conclusion.
