Bayer’s Vayego® launch ceremony was held online in China on May 20, where Bayer’s new-generation and innovative insecticide Vayego® was launched to the Chinese paddy rice market, as a more secure rice pest control solution, which is a safeguard of the Chinese grain production and the sustainable development of agriculture.
In his opening speech, Alfonso Alba, General Manager of Bayer CropScience Great China, said 2020 is the 10th year since Bayer’s “More Rice” initiative launch. With the addition of Vayego®, Bayer can provide farmers with a more secure rice pest control solution for better control of pests and increased yield.
An online speech from Alfonso Alba, General Manager of Bayer CropScience Greater China
In recent years, lepidoptera pests have increasingly damaged agricultural production. In these circumstances, Bayer’s Vayego® containing the active ingredient tetraniliprole is a high-effective product for controlling lepidoptera pests. A data comparison shows that Bayer’s Vayego® shows high insecticidal activity, with a long-lasting effect and is safe for crops. It was granted registration in China in September 2021 for application to paddy rice.
The early stage of crop growth is the start point of crop growth and development. At this time, the field insect population is relatively uniform, which is an optimal time for spraying. Moreover, effective pest control at the early stage of crop growth can reduce the pressure of the huge insect population at a later stage. For Bayer’s Vayego®, the optimal spraying time happens in the peak egg hatching period.
With the gradual increase in the resistance of lepidoptera pests to amide compounds, there is a serious overlapped existence of pest generations, where the field population coexists in multiple insect forms. The mixed-use of Guotang with high-active agents of different mechanisms of action against older insects will help crop production in high efficiency.
Bayer’s new-generation and innovative insecticide Vayego® landed in China at the end of 2020. According to the test results conducted by Bayer CropScience in 8.2 million mu of paddy rice in 2021. It was well recognized and trusted by Chinese farmers, with the satisfaction to Vayego® ’s pest control solution exceeding 98%.
At the launch ceremony, Bayer expressed its intended future development of Vayego® in the years ahead. Presently, Vayego® is a single agent of tetraniliprole 20% SC. So, the development of mixtures is considered for further applications of tetraniliprole in the years to come. In the future, Bayer is prepared to work with more partners to create mixtures that meet the needs of farmers.
So far, Bayer’s Vayego® has been registered worldwide for application to 51 crops on 77 targets. In China, Vayego® has been granted registration for use in six crops, including cabbage, rice, citrus, chilli, apple tree and tomato. As the market is being developed, Bayer plans to apply Vayego® to a dozen crops and targets, aiming to provide Chinese growers with highly efficient and more durable pest control solutions.
