Syngenta presented in Portugal its new herbicide Camix, which was developed to control grass and dicotyledonous weeds in corn, with application in pre-planting (with incorporation), pre-and early post-emergence.
Camix is composed of two complementary herbicidal active substances, S-metolachlor and Mesotrione, and a crop protector, Benoxacor. According to the manufacturer, this combination gives Camix a broad spectrum of action, including on the main weed species that affect corn and excellent selectivity in all corn varieties and cycles.
Leaves, roots, and shoots quickly absorb Mesotrione. It translocates through the xylem and phloem and is distributed rapidly throughout the plant, while the stem and root absorb S-metolachlor.
Grasses are generally more sensitive when the herbicide is absorbed by the stem in emergence, primarily in the coleoptilar node area. Absorption by the roots also contributes to stem damage.
According to Syngenta, Camix has a unique liquid formulation with a long application period and types of uses that allow it to adapt to all situations in the corn crop. For example, Camix controls the populations of typical maize weeds that have demonstrated resistance to triazines in Portugal: Amaranthus retroflexus, Chenopodium album, and Solanum nigrum.
Its spectrum of action includes the main weeds present in corn, including some of those considered difficult: purslane (Portulaca oleracea), sedge (Cyperus esculentus), bredo (Amaranthus blitoides), catassol (Chenopodium album), nightshade (Solanum nigrum), millet (Abutilon theophrasti), millet (Setaria glauca), millet (Digitaria sanguinalis), millet (Echinochloa crus-galli), millet (Setaria viridis), fig tree-inferno (Datura stramonium), millet (Setaria italica), turkey (Amaranthus retroflexus), field mustard (Sinapis arvensis), marshmallow (Polygonum lapathifolium), peach weed (Polygonum persicaria), magpie-skirts (Setaria verticillata), evergreen (Polygonum aviculare).
