The Tender Committee of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry has determined the company-operator for removal of aged and unfit pesticides from Ukraine - C.I. Group Consort Ltd (Israel). The contract amount makes up UAH 175.868 million (1 USD - 7.98 UAH), the ministry's press service informs.
According to the terms of an open competition, the winning company should till the year end ensure collection, processing, transportation and disposal of pesticides unfit for the use and their containers in 22 Ukrainian regions.
Following removal outside the country, the poisonous chemicals will be rendered harmless at special enterprises, for which no analogues are in Ukraine.
"A project for cleaning from unfit pesticides has been realized ahead of time," Minister Mykola Zlochevsky noted. "If the present rates are not lost, in 2012 the entire territory of Ukraine will be clean of unsanctioned storages of those poisonous chemicals, which appeared due to bad management of the farmers from the Soviet Union times."
According to the ministry experts, presently the volume of unfit pesticides makes up about 20,000 tons in Ukraine.
In 2010, the ministry removed 2,600 tons of unfit pesticides from Ukraine.
