Chinese biotechnology company Dabeinong announced that the insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant genetically modified corn DBN9936 independently developed by the company’s holding subsidiary, Beijing Dabeinong Biotechnology Co., Ltd., has gone through a series of procedures to complete the safety evaluation of the US FDA and obtain the FDA’s pre-market food safety approval for genetically modified products.
Insect-resistant herbicide-tolerant genetically modified corn DBN9936 can effectively prevent and control lepidopteran pests in farmland, reduce the use of insecticide and herbicides, improve insect control effect and increase agriculture production while lowering the costs and reduce the environmental damage caused by agricultural production activities.
On December 2, 2019, DBN9936 obtained the agricultural genetically modified organism safety certificate issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China. In 2018, the company's holding subsidiary Beijing Dabeinong Biotechnology Co., Ltd. submitted DBN9936 to the U.S. EPA and FDA. The application for safety evaluation was granted by the EPA in January 2018, and the food safety evaluation opinion formally issued by the FDA was recently obtained.
The trait of corn DBN9936 obtaining the opinion of the US food safety evaluation, confirms that Dabeinong's genetically modified crop research and development and biosafety management level have reached the international level. Although the processed products of DBN9936 and its derivatives can be exported to the United States after the domestic commercialization, but the company expressed that it does not mean that the company will have a large amount of US export revenue in recent years.
