Pivot Bio recently launched its second-generation nitrogen product to increase farm productivity and deliver improved sustainability. Lori Reese, Pivot Bio agronomy field trial manager, says the new Pivot Bio Proven 40 provides significant benefits for farmers.
“We’ve just announced our second-generation product named Proven 40, meaning that it replaces 40 pounds of commercial fertilizer during the whole season for the corn crop. This will be replacing our Proven product which provided around 20 pounds during the growing season.”
Since the company introduced the industry’s first commercially available microbial nitrogen in 2019, Pivot Bio has replaced synthetic nitrogen on more than one million crop acres in 2021 alone. Reese says Proven 40 builds on that success.
“Proven 40 has a lot of benefits to the grower, one being that it is a reliable source of nitrogen that once you apply it when you plant the seed, it’s their all season, there’s no leaching, there’s no volatilization, it’s a reliable source of nitrogen all season long.”
Pivot Bio says synthetic fertilizer is not a sustainable, long-term solution for farmers and food security. Reese says Proven 40 also helps growers achieve their sustainability goals.
“Sustainability is a really hot topic in agriculture today and there is a sustainable aspect to using a product like this that is a naturally occurring microbe, again, no leaching no volatilization.”
Pivot Bio demonstrated the product at more than 300 demonstration and testing sites. Reese adds the new product is applied during planting season.
“Today, the way that we deliver this product is in furrow, so you do need that equipment on your planter to deliver it right against the seed at the time of planting. And we want it there because the microbe is not mobile and the best place for it to be is right there when the radical appears and start that colonization process.”
